    Hello everyone,

In the market for a new baitcaster to replace a Curado I. Mostly Target spotties and halibut in the bays using small swimbaits and plastics on the lighter side. I would pair it with a Phenix M1 rod I have rated 8-17lb.

Does anyone have any experience with these? How are they holding up to the salt?

    Also any suggestions?

    Appreciate any feedback

Its on the higher side, but Diawa has a the Coastal TWS 150 size now. Its 250$ but it should handle smaller baits better than the Coastal 200, which I have. Beast of reel, i can chuck 1/2 ounce well and launch 3/4 damn good. So the 150 should handle that even better. The tranx 200 is also extremely well made for the salt and handles the same. 200$ for that. Both I'd recommend

I don't like the braking system. Too much time trying to dial it in if you change weights.

Interesting. Was this the DC model or the regular SLX? Thanks for your feeback

I've always been a Shimano guy but that Coastal 150 looks sweet!

It was the regular SLX that came out around this time last year

I have a concept z that I bought strictly for the bay and I love it. The reel is super smooth and casts a mile once dialed in which didn't take long. I would recommend the z over the slx.

Thank you looks like a pretty sweet reel! I've had 13 Rods but I've never used their reels before

I have the tranx 200 and it's basically a curado with some saltwater protection upgrades. In the process of buying the new Diawa Coastal sv. My old Coastal never rusted out and handled bay use for almost 5years. Something in the clutch lever broke in the beginning of this year and parts are no longer available. It acts like it has a flipping switch on.
I saw this inshore quantum baitcaster at hooked bait and tackle the other day. Was impressed with the price and quality. Definitely felt better than a normal slx and a origin TX. Might pick it up soon too. Whatever you get make sure you keep us updated.

Ohhh, that accurist does like nice, that price is even nicer. I have no idea about the quality of Quantum reels but that looks like a solid recommendation tho, especially if youre price conscious

Yeah that inshore model is nice. I was super surprised with the free spool time while playing with it in store. The non inshore model has a flipping switch, which can let saltwater inside. So you definitely want the inshore one for salt. I have a origin TX and might replace it with one of these.

Lot's of great suggestions! I have a lot of research to do today. Hoping to make a decision by next week.

My Curado i has served me well the last 4 years but the salt is finally getting to it so I definitely want an inshore/salt specific model

BTW if anyone is looking to pickup some reels, rods or tackle basspro has their 6 months to pay deal going on!

I don't know about the accurist, but have owned two of the monster 300s by quantum. The price point is half that of the accurist, and mine has brought in more than a few limits of yellowtail and yellowfin. I am happy with mine, tight lines.

Aren't they pre-set and all you have to do is turn the wheel to one of the 4 or 5 settings?

Not on the regular SLX. It has that tab bs which is terrible.

So you don't have the DC model? Isn't that what this thread is about?

Ol' school way of slingin' multiple baits...3 up , 3 down, work that spool tension (cast control) knob. Any more than that, you might consider the XT version with its exterior SVS option. But lots of veteran anglers appreciate the user-friendly, lighter maintenance VBS system. Heck of a $99 reel IMHO.
