    August 18th
    6am-12pm

So we will work our hali hunt session the same as the corbina session. We will meet up in the southwestern corner of the big parking lot just south of Belmont Park in MB. I will be where the yellow spot is on the map.

I will sign people in between 5am-6am. Once I am gone I am gone. The only way I will accept late comers is if you meet me wherever I end up. Best thing to do is be there on time....

The entry fee for the hali hunt is $10 per person. This event is for anyone to join, so tell your friends to come out and fish for cash!

Here’s how it works... Once you sign in you will receive a laminated tag. Once you receive it you are free to head to your favorite beach and start fishing. When you catch a fish, you are to include the laminated tag in the photo along with the measurement, and then text the photo to me. My eyes will be the only judge, and I will call it like I see it. It is your responsibility to measure it from the mouth(with the mouth closed) to the end of the tail. I will deduct 1/2” from your measurement if the mouth is wide open, and 1/4” if its partially open. For measuring, I will only accept retractable metal tapes, or hawg troughs. Any pic sent to me with any other type of measuring device will not count. So please make sure to A) bring it, and B) bring the right kind. I will have a few extra retractable tapes that you can borrow($2 deposit) just in case. If you have a home made hawg trough, I will need to see it prior to the start of the session.

    Basic rules....

NO SIZE LIMIT for this event, biggest california halibut of the day takes all the cash! Keep in mind, if you wish to keep one it must be at least 22”!!!

    Surf fishing only!

Metal retractable tapes or hawg troughs only

One rod only(you can bring 20 rods if you want, but only use one at a time)

If you lose your tag you must contact me for specific instructions about sending your pics to me.

You’ll have 6 hours of fishing for this event. All your photos must be sent to me no later than 12:05pm. Any photos I receive after 12:05pm will not count. It’s best you send me your photos immediately after a catch, that way it’s easier for me to keep track of the leaderboard. It would suck to get bombarded with a bunch of pics all at once at the end. I will update this thread the day of the event with all the catches as I get them. I will announce the winner at 12:15pm, and make arrangements to meet back up to hand them the loot.
    ——————
Once again I’m hoping for a decent turnout. 10 heads makes it a three digit pot. I will keep bumping this post so that everyone sees it. But do spread the word! Hope to see you out there.

If you have any questions just ask here, or pm me.

Dropshot or Spiderhitch knot work. There are a few variations of the same basic rig you can use where you have the weight at the bottom and a hook or two or how many ever above the weight, and the hook is attached to the main line with a length of leader or attached directly to the main line. I've read for Hali's that you want a single hook setup and the bait/hook to be no more than 8"-10" off the ocean floor. Correct me if I'm wrong? Also, YouTube is a great resource LOL (I Spend quite a bit of time there watching videos of stuff I read elsewhere, I'm just a visual learner).

Let’s dissect that first line. You have no clue, but you know of dropshotting... sounds to me like you have as much of a chance as I do ;)
Looking forward to seeing you out there.

YES!! We should be settled enough that I can make this one!! Never fished Halibut from shore, but all I need to know is what type of bait and where to get it. The rest I’ll just guess!
    Can’t wait!!

Live smelt is a lock! Lizardfish as well. Shallow diving cranks, krocs, or dropshotted flukes work as far as artificial go.

That’s correct! Normally we work one designated area, but this way you have a choice in case one beach is infested with salad, or whatever.

I told my family about this and now they all want to join. That's 5 people! Would that be alright? Do they need to make an SDfish account?
