Hey guys, finally got approval to post so this is my first report!

High tide at 6:00pm today, so I drove down to SI pier at 7:30pm to fish the outgoing tide. The sun was starting to set but light was shining on the water. Put on a drop shot 5’’ Zoom Super Fluke (Smoking Shad color), hooked on a 1/0 offset worm hook and 12” from the bottom 1oz torpedo sinker.

Just an hour before was watching some videos on how to jig the Zoom flukes and decided to try a “1 pop, reel, 2 pops, reel” strategy with the rod tip pointed down. Just recently bought a Phenix 7’ spinning rod so was finally able to do some good pops. Attached reel was a $20 Quickfire from Squidco. 12# line, not sure what material but probably mono.

First cast, I cast the line towards the parking lot, and started popping. 10 seconds later, I hook up on my PB halibut, 17”! Have only caught babies around 9” in the past, so was definitely a fun fight.

From 8:00pm-12:00am, no bites on the fluke (as well as Gulp ghost shrimps, and Gulp sandworms), but mackies were plentiful. Anyone know if this could be because the fluke is harder to see in the dark? Nonetheless, tight lines everyone and hope to post more soon.

Dark colors for dark skies. I finally put the one brand of swimbaits in my box that has caught the least amount of fish for me to good use. The big hammers in halloween finally laid the wood to sandbass couple weeks ago. Got good numbers and decent size till i lost a few to snags. Then switched to the green yellow just for kicks and did just as well! Still i prefer mc baits, but everyone has different confidence baits they use. I slow rolled them just off the bottom with the current and it was the hot ticket

Thanks Rodney! All my previous Hali’s were actually on the chartreuse 4” swimming mullets but wanted to try something different this time. Will collect some more data in the future!
