Super slow. Tossed a couple back early on I could have kept, kept a couple I gut hooked I might have released, kept one FCF early on I would have put back if fishing was easier. It was slow... And I mean SLOW. Had to reset the comp in my old kickbucket, so I was driving very strange. Probably took me 5 hours of driving just to hopefully get it to smog right... Maybe... Good excuse to get out tho. Think I got on 21-25, only kept a bare handful.. ADIP for sure, check out that sunrise! Amazing fun in the Valle... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnHnQtT7lO8
Could have used more wind, would have tried for bass for a minute, it was just enough to keep the mosquitoes down, win win in my book
Was alright, just slow. Not unexpected for January. Thought the carp would be on a rampage, wrong there. Plenty of L/SMB, striper too, just all tiny. Was ok, just slow. If I had made good on a couple I whiffed and hooked up a few times more, or if the grade was better, whole gig would have been different
So what do you do with the carp you keep? You have some special recipe to make them tasty? Or do they become catfish bait? Spectacular sunrise photo.
Carp get made into spring vegetables or given away, small carp become future catfish bait after a stint in my freezer. Used to eat carp often when I had a Russian girlfriend, she was amazing with those fish cakes... The IV sunrise and sunset are amazing for certain, breathtaking for damn sure
I pulled a 6#+ cat out of a temporary overflow puddle once out there. Another time I walked out into a field getting irrigated and picked up two twenty lb carp out of the mud and a couple 2-3# catfish. No idea how it happened, but there they were.
Thank you for that sunrise pic! Oh, the memories! How were those flathead nuggets? I pulled a 5-6 pounder up here at Old Hickory Lake in TN. Happy to report that they are good eats. But I miss those sunrises. Very special. Cheers.
Hell, nowhere on earth with those sunrises, lol.. FCF are delicious, of course, so are stripers and smallmouth. Even the channels are good out there. How are things in the cackalackey? Catch a bowfin for me yet?
Had a friend that was a Cowboy and he fished the irrigation ditches in Nevada high country. Said he caught breakfast Rainbows!
LOL! So much fishing to do here! Haven’t targeted bowfin yet. I was out with a neighbor who is a bass pro and we were looking for sauger, but ended up with a decent flathead on a jig. From IV, my vote is channel CF. 100%. If I had to pick one fish to eat for the rest of my life (stranded on an island kind of thing) that would be it. Might take me a year or two to get this place dialed in, but I’ll get you a bow. Cheers.
CCF from that place are awesome. Far better than anywhere else I have been, including east TX... Bowfin are about the most fun fish on earth.. destroy a spinnerbait easy, don't lip em either.
Well, if the flathead was any indication, I can’t wait to try the channels and will report to you at earliest opportunity. Will be hard to beat those kitties from the lock in front of Loves in Westmoreland! LOL! And no chance the sunrises here will beat all that open sky with yotes running beside my car while burrowing owls watch. Keep posting pics from the IV, my friend! My boys and I will never forget our time there.
