When it comes to social media and computers, I'm mostly clueless and definitely a no-participation chooser. No Facebook, no Twitter, no DoMe.com, no nothing for me. Not worth it. SDFish is as close to "social media" as I get. If there was ever a person more computer illiterate than me, I've never met him.

Correct me if I'm wrong.. wasn't some dude named Mark Zuckerberg just sitting in front of a congressional hearing talking about how fair his Facebook organization is and how Facebook doesn't interfere with political postings.

How is it that all of these social media sites say one thing in front of Congress, then go right back to playing the game they were accused of once they leave? Censorship seems to be bigger now than it was just a few months ago. I just wonder why that's happening.

I am on FB, and I can tell you that censorship is alive and well over there. Lots of people that i know on the site get censored all the time, some are eventually banned. I have had my acount suspended a couple of time in the last year or so, and I almost never post anything about politics or current affairs on my page. People who know me over there, know that this is true. FB's little snitches and bots will dig up the slightest comment I have made in the last ten years and "communist-y standards" will become mortified and issue me a staunch warning (conveniently not telling me exactly what the offense actually was), suspending my account and threatening to delete my account if it happens again.

I think that in the beginning, the giant tech firms thought that social media would be a good place to brainwash the general public, and when that didn't actually happen, they decided to start imposing punishment for those who thought and spoke freely against all the propaganda.

I’m with ya Creek, with the exception of LinkedIn which is mainly for job opportunities, although it’s very political lately, SDFish and some other fishing related boards are the only social media type sites I’m on. And yes, Zuckerberg claims to be politically unbiased.

Was watching some of the morning news. Was listening to a bunch of Conservatives moaning about how their accounts got either suspended, or outright deleted because of something said that was not liked by whoever that is that makes the deletion/suspension decisions. They pointed out some like-comments made by both Hollywood and political Lefties that were way more inflammatory than any comment they themselves had made. Proof was right there. But the children doing the censoring clearly allowed the Left flames, while censoring the Conservative responses.

In reality, news media outlets do the same thing. As an example, when Jusse Smollett got popped, it was the Left commentators (Joy Reid, Don Lemon, everyone CNN and MSDNC etc) all crying the blues about poor Jusse and how his tale of woe was pure racism stabbed directly into the heart of black peoples everywhere. You could smell more "reparations" in the air coming to a city near you. Once Smollett was found by a jury or his peers to have outright lied about the entire ordeal, it was crickets from the Left like it never happened in the first place. No censorship there.

Pick and choose, pick and choose. Narratives. BLM. Woke. Critical Race Theory. Immigration. Economy. The Great American Reset. Its all smoke. Makes me so glad I'm the age I am. Wont have to deal with all of this stuff much longer - while in twenty years the children of today will up to their backsides in it.

Yep, there are still people insisting that Kyle Rittenhouse shot and killed two black people, and writing about it in media outlet opinion pieces.

:emoji_joy::emoji_joy::emoji_joy: I heard that !! Watched a snip-it of something very akin to what you are talking about - maybe a month or more ago. I thought I was hearing things. In fact, I was so blown away that I second-guessed myself and went back into the original Rittenhouse story just to make sure it was white boys he smoked and not three brothers. So what was that all about? Just more Left media morons relying on their listening audience to be so stupid and lazy that they will believe whatever is thrown at them. Reminds me of a guy on this website that believes anything Left-supported - as long as there's a link to hide behind.

Social media warps the mind of many people....

Just think of all the young people who get their self esteem from how many likes that they receive.

Just think of it as a modern day keeping up with the Joneses with way more people that you don’t know and should probably give a rats rectum about what those people think.

Full left wing communist propaganda and indoctrination with the politics.

The DA is perfect example of a typical social media animal. Great example of online bullying on occasion.

I agree. In the big scheme of things he's not really that much of an issue. Once he starts in on someone - me, Dano, you, whoever, its almost like he's just void and everyone seems to move past him. He's frightened to death of Covid and I understand that part of it. I'm okay with anyone thats frightened to death of it - regardless of what they feel "it" is. Its their business. Stay inside, spray Lysol everywhere, wrap up in body condoms, whatever it takes to calm down. Considering all of the links he tosses out there, I assume he is unable to make choices/decisions for himself. Its the constant telling everyone else what they should do because he knows best projection that gets old.

And the ironic thing of it is, that no matter who you are, or what side of a debate of any sort you are on, you will agree with this statement.

Ha! The planets must have aligned this am while I was cruising both FB and SDFish. There's still (to me at least) obvious things to see eye to eye on. That being said, Social media in general. FB, Insta, even here has 'terms and conditions' in order to participate on said platform. In my mind that somewhat nullifies our 'free speech' argument and it can be easily skewed/censored/deleted.

That is a great example of the classic cognitive bias known as an anchoring bias were a person relies on the first piece of information that they get about a topic. They then set plans or make estimations about a topic they will then more than likely interpret newer info from the reference point of their anchor instead of seeing it objectively. This behavior can skew judgement and prevent a person from updating any plans or predictions as much as they should.

Another classic form of cognative bias that is festering all over social media, mainstream media,Government and even in the minds of some notable members of this forum that shall remain namelessIs at this point in time.Is called confirmation bias. That being the tendency to seek out, interpret, judge and remember information that supports ones pre existing point of view or ideas.

This is a big ingredient in the classic Marxist/Communist manifesto thinking.

And don't forget that he will accuse him of table pounding. "Pounding the table" is such a favorite phrase of this guy, that I envision him doing it all the time, whenever he is reading anything on this forum, all the while, feverishly qeueing up links to his favorite propaganda.
