This is what I do when using sand crabs to catch corbina.

Single crabs on a c-rig I’ll hook on the side from under the shell coming out the top using a #6 or #8 octopus type hook.

Single crabs while sight fishing I hook in the small corner slot where the digger meets the shell from the bottom through the top using a super small #10, or #12 baitholder or octopus hook.

Crab sandwiches on a c-rig, two back to back on a #6 octopus style hook, or if the crabs are ultra tiny, I’ll stack em’ one after another on a #6 or #4 octopus hook. (No pic as I didn’t have tiny crabs today for an example)
When fishing with the c-rig I’ll send it out, wind tight and let it tumble around for a few seconds, tight line again, then a few turns here and there. But it’s never out there more than a couple mins. Bring it in, if crabs are still lively I’ll send them back out. If not I’ll change them out. Sight fishing, you find the largest crab possible, lively is key because you want it to dig. If it doesn’t dig your chances are slim. You’re trying to let the crab be a crab, but in the sight of a searching bean. Use it until it doesn’t dig any longer, then change.

Thank you for the detail based on bait size. I’ve never hooked them like this, can’t wait to try it.

I was out Sat. night/evening - and once the sun set and it got dark, I no longer got any bites - wondering if they aren't going for the bait because it is dark? I suspect the odds are less - don't know.
