Hello SDfish, I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted. I was out at the cays baiting and waiting with squid when I got a big run on my saltist 20h, I set the hook and it felt like a huge spottie. When I later eyes on my catch, it caught me off guard. It was a fat yfc I was not that surprised because a month before this catch I hooked a HUGE corbina (20+ inches)in a different part of the cays on a bass pro speed shad dropshot, but sadly it broke the hook. But it was still a unexpected welcome, last time I hooked a croaker in the bay was when I was 7 fishing the Coronado bridge with live ghost shrimp. Me and my friend also caught 3 huge and possibly pregnant round stingrays(no pictures were taken of the rays). I will also show my spottie catches from the last few weeks( all on dropshot, dark sleepers, or swim jigs) at the cays. Glad to be back and thanks for looking at my post :)
    Thank you,
    Dat_fisherman.

Thanks everyone for the welcome back, I’ve been dealing a lot with my grandma. She has dementia and she barely remembered me when on the phone.

I have a question about soupfin sharks too. My friend and I were out fishing on a kayak and my float tube in the cays, when my friend hooked something huge. I say it was at least 4 feet long and it was long, skinny, and tan. I thought it was a soupfin shark when I first saw it, but it broke the knot when we were about to land the kayak to start fighting it. It was dragging my friend and the kayak out to the middle of the bay, I had to drag him back with my float tube because he couldn’t put the rod down since he didn’t have a drive in the kayak. Do you think it was a soupfin or was it something else.

It had long runs since he had to loosen the drag on his SLX DC and he was on 12# fluorocarbon, he fought it for 30+ mins when I finally broke the knot. Is there even soupfin in the bay?

Yep, there are soupfin. There are also smoothhounds that can get pretty big too, they don't have the stamina of a soupfin tho..

All jokes aside was probably a dog fish.
