Cooper catches a 69 inch Soupfin shark off Harbor Island. Fought it for 30 minutes. Lots of onlookers including the fire department. Cooper had the guts to pull it out of the water to get his pick. Luckily didn’t get bit. Safely released!

That's awesome. Just glad he didn't slip and fall halfway through the fight.. That would've sucked.

If I tried to stand on that rock, WITHOUT a big *** shark, I'd slip and fall and break something. Your son is a billy goat with large amounts of testicular fortitude.

Oh he went into the water after that shark. He wasn’t going to lose it . But my son is smart he knew he was going to let it go so he made sure the shark didn’t hit the rocks so he made sure not to horse it in. He played it until the shark was tired enough to grab him. Very proud!

Yeah unbelievable to see him bring it in. I am surprised he caught a soupfin in the bay this time of year. Is this rare? Maybe you or coach could weigh in?

Definitely unusual from shore, but the halibut guys in the main channel get plagued with them at times. I think lots of them get hooked by shore guys and the kayakers, few are landed since most folks don't have gear or expertise to actually get the beasts to hand. I saw no less than three YT videos involving soupfin this summer for the kayakers, and two of those were in the main channel of SDB. I think we are running behind schedule, as I think the soupfin are typically back to sea by now, I have this feeling they are or were lingering...

Interesting. I know they are catching them in the surf quite frequently I just thought the bay was a little unusual this time of year. Even though it was caught from the shore we use 9 foot rods and are getting the bait way out towards the deeper water.
