Fished for a few hours down at stone steps, Sunrise to about 9am. It wasnt too cold and the water was perfect. Light waves and no salad.

Chucked some squid out along with some Gulp camo.

    Fish Landed

    a nice bat ray
    small shovelnose
6 perchies- none to brag about

    Fish that got away

had to be a 4'-5' shovelnose or leopard.
put up a nice fight and it started thrashing close to shore and snap. all i saw was the tail as it came in. I need to keep a better eye on my knots cause that was so disappointing.

Stone Steps is a beach in Encinitas, north of Moonlight State Beach, south of Leucadia Blvd.

Depending on what youre targeting/your bait, most guys in the surf are throwing 6-8# test. When I am going for rays/sharks, ill move up to 12# or more.
