Made it out to the strand today. Got out there about 630 just after peak low. Definitely shouldve brought something other than my perch gear. Birds were diving within casting distance and water looked as if i couldve probably got a hali. Little to no grass, mostly started coming in about 2-3 hours into the rising tide. Still wasnt anything to worry about though.

I was fishing with my friends new bait (biglautbaits on IG). In the first probably 10-15mins I had 2 YFC landed already. Then nothing else.
Moved down the beach where I met up with a buddy. He had landed 5 dink perch by the time i got over there. We fished there for a little while I hooked 3 fish and lost all 3. 1 was right at my feet.
We moved over to another spot he caught another perch and right after he released it i got another one hooked up, and yet another lost fish.
Made another move. I hooked up on another perch had him all the almost out of the water and pop went the hook. Literally ran after him. It stopped and looked back at me, gave me the fin and as the next waved rolled over he was gone.
One last move i kept getting nibbles but no commitments. As I was walking around my friend to the other side of him I spooked 2 beans that were up shallow behind him as he was knee deep. I asked if he saw them swim by and he said no. Next cast he pulls in a 15" bean.
So if you kept track i landed 2 fish and lost 5.. Yes 5 fish. The 2 i lost at my feet both looked as though they would've been upgrades for KOTB, easily 10" fish.

    WHATEVER!!!

I recall seeing birds diving close at SS. I certainly regret not casting a spoon/jig at em. Definitely within casting range. Would love to know what's lurking underneath em, be sure to give it a shot when you can!

Brand new hooks! And the fish were getting hooked and staying on for a few sec at least.. And 2 came all the way up to almost out of the water.

on a grunion run weekend, i always bring a rod with a baitfish presentation (dropshot fluke or hardbait). i always gotta assume there are halis and other predators lurking around waiting for the buffet to show up. even on the mornings after, i think they are there looking for stragglers.

I try to always have a Gibbs flat, deadly D!ck, krok, or megabait etc on the side of my bucket. Never know when you will have a shot at a fish of a lifetime
