    Cheesy lawn shot.

    IMG_6707.jpeg

Ran down to the beach after sunset and hooked up before my tenth cast. Right place at the right time. Long battle, probably 15+ minutes. Inshore rock hazards and waves and burning off drag - it stayed on the surface luckily until I gaffed it.

Stradic 1000, Texas-rigged fluke on 15 lb. braid.

    19 lbs, 38 inches

OH, MY, GOODNESS…. What a beautiful fish!
    Outstanding work all around sir.
I aspire to catch a legal sea bass. That my man, is a fish of a lifetime.
I apologize in advance but my OCD will not allow me not to ask, plus I’ll be others want to know as well.
    What color fluke?
Carolina, sled head, sliding worm sinker, or drop shot?
    Thanks in advance & congratulations!

You brought the gaff.. Hell ya, way to go man. I just bought a thick chunk of White Sea Bass at Major Market yesterday and broiled it last night. It’s definitely up there with some of the best, as far as eating goes. $18.99 per pound, fresh.. Great job out there Blackcloud, and great pictures. You should swap that first picture out and use it as your new avatar. A small spinner set up with a 20lb Bass over your shoulder. Lol.. That’s the best.

This is also a reminder to me to carry a gaff.
    Thanks!

A fish had ripped a white Keitech swimbait off the hook. It was almost dark so I reached in my bag and grabbed a fluke bait - rigged this bait onto the weedless hook with a 3/8 oz pegged slip weight. This is an old "JR plastics" or something left over from fishing Barrett in the 90's. Looks like a sardine though. And, note the small gaff mark in the throat.

Thanks B8. The "gaff" used is shown below, it's simple. I always keep it outside my pack and ready to grab. Hand goes thru the cord loop, and BAM! fish on the beach!

    20220912_083303.jpg

Probably had 7+ lbs of drag on that thing at one point, my 9 foot Phenix 903 ML maxxxed out and bending at the reel. Heard a cheer from behind me when I finally gaffed it. I was using a 3-foot topshot of 20# fluoro carbon, my knots held. I got really lucky to get this one to the beach.

Its the Trifecta Lite version, weighs just a few ounces and it has been a lifesaver as I have arthritis (well, I am 56). With my previous surf rod, my hands cramp up because I'm continually casting and working lures.

It works killer for crappie :emoji_thumbsup:and yeah, even the larger seabass too I guess!! :emoji_stuck_out_tongue::emoji_joy:
