    Hello all

I recently moved closer to Del mar / La jolla beaches and wanted to ask what beaches you reccomend for some surf fishing! I have fished blacks a lot of times but the hike down there is not ideal for when I just wanna have a quick hour session at sunset.

I usually fish carlsbad, but it's too far north now

Surf fishing north of Torrey Pines on Del Mar reefs is pretty good. You just have to dodge all the kooks on surfboards because they won't give a crap that you're there or respect your space at all.

Torrey pines is a good spot with free street parking and easy access to the beach.

Del Mar doesn't have a lot in terms of beach parking lots. Your best bet would be to use Google Maps, set it to satellite view, and scout out some streets that have easy access to the beach.

Just a heads-up, if you decide to fish dog beach in Del Mar don't leave any gear unattended, or else you will turn around to find a line of dogs taking turns peeing on your stuff.

Are you referring to the diagonal parking spots? I never got luck with those for sunset sessions... Probably works for early morning sessions.

wait in your car parallel to the parked cars. im sure you've seen the conga line waiting for open spaces. the longest i've ever had to wait for a spot is probably 15-20 mins.

if you get there right before sunset though, good luck. most people are there for just that, and wont leave until they get their instagram pic

There is some pretty good reef / sand interface to the North above Dog beach in Delmar . My grand father and his buddies showed me and took me fishing there staring in the Mid 1960s , It's still a good location to this day . Tight lines . WR

Start walking the beach closest to your house, bring polarized glasses and look for inshore holes, reefs and structure. It can be time consuming but rewarding finding a bite you made

Agreed. My general experience (which is only a few months...) was that pretty much all beaches have some good spots. The difference between good spots and "normal" sections of the same beach, is larger the difference between beaches. Also tide makes a big difference.
