What reel would you guy recommend for a RCLB 79MH 30-80 this would be my all around set up for medium to heavy live bait set up, also how would you guys recommend spooling those reels? Curious does anyone have any experience with rainshadow rods and if so your thoughts? Thank You !!

I've paired my exact same rainshadow with a accurate boss Magnum 870/ 870 2speed (depends) spooked 2/3 with 65/80 braid and at least 40lb and up top shot. Killed plenty of large BFT with that combo.
(That reel is slightly larger then there modern day BX-500 size reel. Accurate my favorite.

Nothing wrong with a rainshadow, just as good as a calstar without the price!
Bill Batson owner of rs also manufacturers Alps guides which is used on every other rod brand so the brand quality is there. Everyone was on the high priced Cousin rod kick & look where they are now...
    Dont hesitate on the RS
Your using the rod mostly what line class???, are we talking for larger fish like the local bft?
What are we looking to do here? Just one piece or arsenal for your multi day / longe rage trips or just a local rod?
    Talica 16 2 speed, Penn Fathom 40 2 Speed, Avet JX 2Speed?

Only have one...80M matched with my metaloid 5ii. Will hopefully put it to the test in a couple weeks. Fishing 40lb on it. I hear they are on part with Calstar but I cannot speak to that as I have not used it yet. Action is a bit faster than my Calstar 800M.

mostly for 3/4 offshore to 2 day trips. Looking to build a small arsenal. What would you say is the sweet spot (lb wise) for this rod?

that would be a 40-50lb rod+ for sure. You can get by using it to attempt to catch one of these big bft, heavy yoyo rod, etc... Ide probably get a fathom 2 speed as theyre cheap & good quality, can be used for lots of things...

I'd probably lean towards a 40N 2 speed. Great reel for a great price.

my buddy that's involved in my 2day charter went over 400 yards of 80lb on his 40 so no reason to o 65lb...
All our reels are crammed full with braid & fish a short flouro leader...

I am an Avet Honk, so I would put a JX Raptor on it. Braid with a short topshot and it could fish 40-50

Yeah but Cousins was offering the same rod as the CalStars and Seekers (before the changed owners and made those weird Uluas) for $150 more... and they really weren’t impressive for being priced that much higher. With the Rainshafows I’ve pulled on (a jigstick that was like 8’9 and a few fly line rods) I’d say they are worth the price you pay for them. Not in the same ballpark as Calstar Glass or Graphite but if your on a budget their alright.

I think the okuma 5ii is on sale at charkbait still. Filled up with 60lb braid and 40lb or 50lb topshot should be under just around $200 bucks.

Not sure what your budget is. But some ideas

Talica 25ii 80lb braid and you can fish 40-60 lb on it

Saltiga ld 2 speed. Same as above

Avet HX Raptor. Same as above

The Talica and Avet both have lugs some of the Saltiga do as well so you can attach a harness as well. We are talking fish well over #100. Some people like some don’t. I like it it’s an energy saver for me and I can put more continuous pressure on the fish. (If you rest the fish rests)
