My buddy and I are going out on a 1-day on Thursday. Could I get some recommendations on what is working now? Will be looking for Yellowfin & 'tail, Bluefin, etc.
    Thanks!

everything is working right now. from live sardines to cut bait. try irons and flat falls as well. the key is to find the area where the bite is.

I would call the landing that your boat is leaving out of and ask them, if you can speak with the captain that's even better.

One bait rod with 40lb and 30lb fluorocarbon top shots available. Start with 40lb in my opinion and if others fishing light line are getting bit and you're not, switch it up.
Second rod for surface iron/flat fall as stated above.

All you need in my opinion... Keep it simple.

If you have extra setups and insist on bringing them... use two bait rods, one 30lb the other 40lb fluoro.
Then one surface iron rod and one flat fall rod. Your bait rods will be used 90% of the time if I were to guess. Good luck

Google Shimano Butteyfly flat falls - blue sardine in 80 gram worked best for me.

i nailed 2 yellow fin on back to back casts letting the butterfly jig. unless you feel something really weird let the jig just fall for 25 seconds and reel it in as fast as you can, use your high gear obviously if you have a two speed or use your higher gear ration rig for this purpose

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the advice. I haven't been out in many a year and need all the help I can get!

I am a real rookie. What about attachments? Do I use swivels, rings, tie direct to the hooks and jigs?

To flatfalls - use swivel if using spinning reel or the line will twist up too much - tie straight to flatfall if using conventional reel. Hooks I like using circle hooks with a ring that way I can release the fish if they are too small or if I have my limit and am catching and releasing.

Most the Time you will just be tying a hook to the end of your line with nothing else. Do not be shy about asking a Deck hand for advice and maybe even help with tying your hook on.

Thanks for all the good advice. Had a great trip on Old Glory out of H & M. Got my first Dorado and came back with a lot of good fish. BTW: The crew on Old Gory is great! Friendliest and most helpful people I have ever fished with!

I have no idea how it feels to get hit on the flat fall, I already lost three of those things. 45 bucks down the drain.

One of the guys said, that I'm probably letting them swallow it.

Free spool through you fingers and wait for any real change in the drop. Put in gear and reel.
