Scubalee was kind enough to invite me & Jenx for a skiff session. I was a few minutes behind because I wanted to cook lumpias for the boys...got to Dana & scuba already had live baits for us! He started fishing around 4 a.m! What a trooper! We headed straight to the bait barge to buy some more live bait, jenx split up the half scoop (going back later in the afternoon to get the rest).
Started fishing... I opted out on the live bait, using book up bait first then switched to swim baits. Caught a 22 plus inch hali, usual bay bass (lost count) & some type of fish none of us had any idea what kind??
    Scuba caught a 20 inch hali & a couple of big sbb's.
I decided to call it quits since I was getting tired & have an early start to work tomorrow, the gentlemen are still fishing as I'm writing this report. I hope they catch many more!!

they are edible. heck I catch them by the bucket when I go to the pier sometimes. I usually just clean it out, fry it and dip it in soy/lemon. they're also really good bait; especially the small ones.

    Tore it up Indeed!

i'dratherbe put on a show for how it is done in the bay. She out fished us surfcasters who were using live baits 6:1!! It was like a fish on for her every other time I look up.

Fish were most active in the morning till around 1000ish. Get out there if you can cuz they were on the chew.

On the side note: I was able to use a $5 cane pole from Coach and drift fished for a SBB. Will try again in the future and hopefully land a halibut using the CP.

Also saw a bat ray go air born while it was fighting against another skiff fisherman.

    Just simply good times!!

That cane pole was awesome! Catching a hali on that would be something amazing to see.

Man of many talents there Coach! I grew up in New Hampshire and I remember handlining Cod and Cusk with my Father and Grandfather. Cotton gloves 3lb diamond jigs or bait fishing, helluva way to load up the freezer and build up your hands, wrists, and forearms lol.

Queenfish made up most of our catch at the OB pier in the early seventies. Tasty. Would scale and gut 'em then fry or broil 'em whole. Nice catching, peeps.
