    "
    (c) Tilapia may be used in the Salton Sea, and
may be taken for bait only within the area
bounded by Highway 111 on the north and
east and Highway 86 on the west and south

(except as in subsection (d) below.
    (d) Tilapia may be taken and used for bait in the
Colorado River and its associated backwaters
only within the area bounded by Palo Verde
Diversion Dam south to the Morelos Dam."

Can somebody clarify where this actually is? I can only see getting the 86 to your west and south by going above Brawley. I can't see how to get the 111 to your north and east?

Now a big corridor has the 86 to the west and 111 to the east. Is that legal?

The 111 definitely runs north and east, then west back to the 86

Other than a slight detour near Brawley, 111 is pretty much runs straight north. How can you get it on your north and east at the same time. Now maybe in that slight detour but then you don't have the 86 to the west and south.

    I just don't get it.

Basically it's just the area around the Salton sea. It dips down to Brawley in the middle, forget what town the northern corner is in. Mecca, I think..

But the way it reads you can’t use tilapia for bait in any water between Hwy 111 and Hwy 86. You can only catch them in that area. Even if you catch them in the water you are fishing within that area. (Not counting the river area) Right?

Ah! fine point indeed. It does say taken not used in that area.
Use is only in the SS and int the CR between those points mentioned.

This is one of the most confusing regs about that area. Basically from the wardens ive talked to tilapia can only be used in palo Verde outfall canal and main river. The out fall canal dierct connects to the river and comes out by walters camp. So I believe it falls under the backwater part. This regs make no sence as tilapia are everywere . I know of people being forced to dump out tilapia on the ground while fishing the ALL american Canal. Ive heard the fine is quite steep.

Are there still Tilapia in the Salton sea? I called the park ranger a couple months ago and he told me it was pretty much dead. In 2016 we went during the summer and we were taking home coolers of Tilapia.

Mostly gone, the deltas and drain inflow areas still have some. Really, hit the drains, plenty in the drains

Irrigation drains... Drains get larger as you head north, canals get smaller.. Some of the bigger ones dump straight into Salton, the others run into one of the rivers instead, any can have tilapia

I see the wetlands east of Brawley. If these are the drains you're referring to do you ever get hassled by the cops or by the locals for fishing there?

As long as you don't block the road, I doubt you will find anyone to care. Yeah, most of the wetlands have tilapia too, can't speak for that one though
