Hey guys do any of you know where to find/catch topsmelt in SD bay? I haven’t been able to find them in great numbers. It’s not the catching them part it’s just being able to locate them. Any help would be appreciated as I use them specifically for float tube bait.

Do you have a specific location or marina? I’ve tried shelter island pier and had no luck

They're always at shelter island pier. Chum bread mixed with water. Use a small sabiki with bread to catch them. I've been catching them there almost every weekend since February.

I've caught them in the morning, afternoon, evenin, etc. When it's sunny, they tend to be higher in the water column, but I have caught them during stormy weather as well.

I like two number 12 trebles about a foot or so apart with a split shot in the middle. Toss the bread in in little balls and snag em

Roger that! Are the smelt usually always at south shores boat launch? Fished spotties there before and never seen em? Thanks!

Plenty in Liberty Station off the foot bridge. Just drop a sabiki with shrimp and they'll on within a few minutes.
