Here's a few pics of my last two trips out. One to El Cap, the other San V.

El Cap... a little collage of some of the larger ones.

Half day at El Cap, started out strong. Monster bass on Super Spook off a white capped point first cast, lost in the top of some thick brush that's everywhere. Then a nice one on the WP (whopper plopper).

Then a few minutes later I was casting the WP and it backlashed halfway out the same time I was changing hand positions and the force pulled the rod out of my hands, landing 3 feet away. I had zero time to think- a few hundred dollar investment was sinking in front of my eyes. I tried to reach it and lost my balance and fell in (I was debating if I should jump, and was running why I shouldn't thru my head in that 1/4 second but found myself now underwater anyways). Swam, found the rod (can't see diddle in stained water) and swam back to the boat. Threw it in and got out via help from the big motor's step. I then surveyed the damage. Yep, hat and sunglasses still on, phone in pocket still (half the time not, I leave it in bottom of boat- note to self, ALWAYS leave it in bottom from now on). Earpiece still in ear, but now wet, etc.. Stripped down to BVD's and spread everything out to dry, shouldn't take long in 95 degree heat.

In the meantime, the lure had drifted into some trees, and as I went over I realized I could've just pulled it up from the lure. Duh!

Worked my way to the back, got more frog action, the popper didn't do it's magic as much this day. Still an enjoyable day, especially since the phone and earpiece ended up working fine. Thank U Lord.

San V., a little collage of some of the larger ones.

Yesterday had a blast with more top, this time at San V. Was supposed to be 95, but only felt like 90, due to a nice bit of cloud cover all day. I lost an absolute monster off the popper towards the end of the day, and my backseater Larry hooked into one on his popper too, a buster, but it got off. Back at the ramp he noticed why, as the back treble was missing.

Got them on frogs, poppers and boot tail flukes. Dink size here was 1.5 pounds, compared to El Cap last week, which was .5. Water was 83. Lots of pleasure boats, but probably a lot less than today, or even tomorrow, Sat..

Well did saving the $200 rod cost you a $800 phone or did the phone survive....:emoji_grimacing:

More like $500, but as I said, I was blessed with it still working. It has a waterproof case, and they said the phone is waterproof also. Or I should say ‘water resistant’ in both cases. I was sweating bullets for a minute though you can bet that.

Always inspiring! Going through my topwater boxes and loading them in the boat!

Whew, that was a close one otay michael Almost lost a rod/reel and a phone. Good job retrieving the rod in stained water. Thank goodness your phone still works, too. Thanks for the report and pics!

I think right now the swimming sounds more enjoyable than fishing..the heat comfort index is somewhere around 120!

You might have read about me falling in the water at Lake Miramar in March. Out towards the dock's end. Yelled for help and two adults ran out to assist me. One was a 19 yr. old Russian girl who would rate a ten on beauty with Siberian husky gray eyes. Phone was in pants pocket and was ruined.
