Had some days off and while I had fun spending 3 nights up a Harrahs casino and even came home with a few extra bucks... I had a very tough fishing week on 3 trips. I was able to hit Murray during the week before we left and caught 4 small bass (2 of them were very tiny) and a bluegill on a jigpara. The lowlight is I blew a few other opportunities. Worst of all I should know that light line vs cement structure is not a good thing and it cost me a nice bass. I saw it once before it dug down and broke me off in the structure and looked at least 5lbs .
Them hit Otay in my kayak on Sunday late morning(after not sleeping well) and just could not just situated. I only caught one small bass(drop shot) after tons of casts. It was nice to see that scheadhunter had a nice outing at Otay. Heck I should have followed him around...ha ha The highlight at Otay was chatting with Capt Ray. A great guy and heck of a fisherman.
Then I returned to Murray today and while working a creature bait had a bass on my first bite of the day snap off my floro leader. I should know better to always change your leader line after each trip....as it does get dinged up. I worked my butt off to catch land one bass(have another bass come off in between missing a couple bites). Then top it off, I caught another dang bluegill on a jigparra in 50' of water. Bottomline: not a good week fishing for me.
The highlight of the week was on my porch when I got home today. Hopefully something in there will work better on my next fishing trip.
    A couple pics.....

Back at you Vinny. It was great finally getting to meet and chat. I wish I had a bit more time to following you around and learn some of your deep tactics. Definitely not my strong point.

It was a pleasure to meet and chat with you. Look forward to seeing you again out there on Sundays.
Otay can be really fun, but no tactic was going to work for me on that day...deep or shallow....ha ha :)

Yes......he has made quite a bit of money from me personally over the years and no doubt tons of money from you and so many others on SDFIsh. I know a few guys are not contributing to Yamamoto’s fortune like fisheromen who uses non Yamamoto senko type worms that catch lots of nice bass and are a heck of a lot less expensive. Smart guy!
Oh yeah speaking of Ramona... mcfish once again reminded me to tell you guys that all the bass in Sutherland(aka lake of Donald and Keifer) are gone. So other lakes will be your best bet after Sutherland opens. :)

It's weird how I as well love to see those tacklewhere house boxes at the front door but my wife doesn't like them at all? Go figure! You're a good fisherman Vinny, I'm confident your quality and catch ratio will go right back real soon. It's funny that all my fish look at least 5 lbs underwater but the scale always says 1.5 lbs!! Weird how that works!!! Lol tight lines V.

I like the Googan trench hawgs. They have lots of action and you can even cut them to make them shorter. Here is what they look like and a full length one attached to a bass from your lake I caught last year. I tend to call a lot of things creature baits that are not a plastic worm and this is I think one heck of a creature...ha ha

Also they have a Bandido Bug which I will be trying this year and know that a few of my friends really like using them.

I used to fish Miramar when I was a kid and all the fish looked bigger in the water because the water was so clear. My father always taught me to underestimate the size of a bass and it was a good practice as I would say a bass weighed 2 lbs and when it was weighed it was 3lb. It was always fun to go a little low and then when it was actually weighed, I felt better as it usually weighed more than I estimated. Today of course everyone has scales and what is says on the scale is what it weighs and ends up in my fish report.
A few years ago I caught a bass just a few ounces under 7 lbs and posted it. Lots of guys on SDFish said I should get a new scale and it was a much bigger bass. I have a boca grip scale(which is pretty darn accurate) and went by the weight it said. That is what the scale said so why make up a lie?
Of course all the bass I lost recently(like the 2 in this fish report) were all over 10 lbs most likely.... KIDDING of COURSE!!!

I heard stories that decades ago mcfish once had a scale that at the lowest starting weigh was 4lbs. He was having a banner fishing year as even the smallest bass he caught weighed at least 4 lbs, but he started to feel guilty and threw the scale in 82' of water somewhere in San V. When word got out all the local bass fisherman started calling him "Honest McFish" and even honored him at a dinner at the Hotel Del Coronado as the most honest bass fisherman back then(in the 70's). He is a great guy and an honest fisherman.....trust me.

Vinny I was tempted to purchase a 5 pound sack of potatoes for one arm and a bass for the other. I've had bad luck with scales by losing them breaking or dead batteries. I've since learned to to replace batteries often and keep the scale in my PFD vest pocket to avoid going turtle in my Yak.

If you go with him don’t ever ask him about the secret bait locker in his boat....it kind of irritates him after all the Mike Long stuff came out.
    I AM JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is an honest fisherman that does not throw bait. But If you can get him to give you a few secret spots of his about Lake Murray, just private message me..... ha ha :)
