Went out this morning with HK_Supermarket around 6 and threw some jerkbaits around for about an hour with no luck. Switched over to sandcrab and got a corbina right away. Hook was a bit deep so I put him down to grab pliers. Few seconds later an osprey swooped down next to us, grabbed the fish, and flew towards the ocean with my rod dangling beneath. Nothing like seeing your rod fly away to make you feel completely dumfounded.

It ended up being too heavy, and he dropped it in the ocean. Luckily, my friend was able to see it and direct me from the big rock we were on while I went for a swim to get my rod back. Was able to get it with the fish still on for a safe release, surprisingly.

Overall able to catch a few medium sized corbina and HK_Supermarket with a nice sandbass, roundray, and some corbina. All that and still able to get to work on time for my afternoon shift.

    Always watching us.

    Another potential victim.

Damn, I'm pretty good at catching birds. Maybe just a matter of time till one flys off with my setup.

I have had them snatch fish from me as I lifted the fish out of the water float tubing, always breaks the line though. Scares the crap out of me when it happens, much bigger bird than you think. There are a couple that nest on top of one of the poles outside of J Street harbor in season. Good story. Wish we had video.

I almost want to see how that fight is. Just tie a surf perch to the line or a croaker and leave it in the sand >.<

Years ago I was in my float tube at Lake Poway just south of the pier. I hooked up to a trout and was reeling him in and was just about 10 ft from netting him when I felt a "whoose" behind me just over my head and "Ollie the osprey" who had a nest in the big tree up on the hill nailed my trout and started flying away with it. I gave my rod a jerk and the lure popped out of the trout's mouth but Ollie kept the trout. At least I got my lure back.

I was at Cuymacha once and right as I threw out my stringer with trout on it, a BIG bald eagle
flew over at about ten feet eyeballing my catch. That was cool.

One of the places I fish spotties in MB has a resident osprey nest near the water. When I come along the bird slips into a palm tree right behind me and waits. Three or four times the bird has taken spotties but not while the fish is hooked. He waits till I unhook them and toss them back in the water. Hits the spottie right when the fish hits the water.....kind of a bounce. First time it happened i could feel the wind from the bird in flight....right over my right shoulder. Scared the hell out of me. I can only imagine what it was like seeing your fishing rod flying away haha. Now every time I fish that spot I get that weird feeling that someone(or something) is watching me:emoji_thinking::emoji_thinking:

What a report! Glad you got your gear back. I am amazed at how daring ospreys are. They seem to have more huevos than seagulls. One grabbed a fish not two feet away from my kids and I while we were surfing the white water. We saw it come in like a dive bomber.
