“I’m officially announcing today that the United States will be revoking the effect of America’s signature from this badly misguided treaty,” Trump said during a speech before the National Rifle Association in Indianapolis. “We will never allow foreign bureaucrats to trample on your Second Amendment freedom.”
The origins of the treaty, which sets out international rules for sales and transfers of everything from small arms to large planes and ships, date to the George W. Bush administration. It was negotiated under the auspices of the United Nations and signed in 2013 under President Barack Obama but has never been ratified by U.S. lawmakers.

Even if ratified, I believe it was unenforceable due to that pesky road block called the constitution...;)

What a pesky old document the Constitution is. Defining our rights in a way that cannot be conveniently swept under some rug. I'm glad the step has been taken to formally remove the country as a signatory to the treaty. Never should have been signed to begin with, and existed only as an affront to our sovereignty.

Enlighten me as I have very limited knowledge to this. From what I have read, this only had international trade and sales impact. Nothing domestic.

Basically to prevent 1B arms deals with Shady countries for example...

It would have required domestic gun sales records to be turned over to an international governing body.

Anti-gun treaty proponents continue to mislead the public, claiming the treaty would have no impact on American gun owners. This is a bald-faced lie. For example, the most recent draft treaty includes export/import controls that would require officials in an importing country to collect information on the “end user” of a firearm, keep the information for 20 years, and provide the information to the country from which the gun was exported. In other words, if you bought a Beretta Shotgun, you would be an “end user” and the U.S. government would have to keep a record of you and notify the Italian government about your purchase. That is gun registration. If the U.S. refuses to implement this data collection on law-abiding American gun owners, other nations might be required to ban the export of firearms to the U.S. =^..^=

    Thanks for that ...

Very interesting, so I wonder if perspective would change sending the worlds data to be maintained by the US; given that we are the largest producer and exporter - just food for thought.

The US already has that data. Intell already monitors international gun trade.
