My son Levi and I went back to the OB tide pools on Saturday afternoon (1/9) during a zero tide. He helped write this report.

We started with some mussel as bait and we pulled up a wooly sculpin right away. As the tide went up, we moved to a different spot. I baited my hook with some mussel and baited Levi’s hook with some shrimp. I caught an opaleye on my mussel and then Levi caught another opaleye on his shrimp. We were using size 10 hooks and split shot weight with mini rods.

Somehow, we never really thought about how the Opaleye got its name, but we took some underwater photos after catching them and the eyes really stood out.

Not to be outdone, the Wooly Sculpin is a beautiful fish underwater, even though it looks pretty plain out of the water. It's got incredible eyes too.

This concludes our OB tidepools Eyewitness report. #Dadjokes
