I don't remember the greenhouse, but I probably wasn't paying attention to them. I do remember the screens for the cool water intake, when they would pull them up to clean it would have jumbo shrimp trapped in them still alive.

I remember them they were huge. I don't know if they are still there since there isn't warm water being discharged. But I don't know if that was the reason they were there.

Like 500lbs huge! They were there because of the warm water, after the plant shut down i would see them more scattered throughout the south bay and now i haven't seen one in over a year. For those that knew about it was our own little baja hidden in the south bay, truly was a magical place!

I'm so confused, so this thing has been here the entire time and I've NEVER noticed? I've been fishing Southbay pretty frequently for as long as I can remember. I remember the powerplant, but for some reason I don't remember ever seeing this. Maybe there's something new a little bit north of it? Speaking of which, does anyone remember the building on stilts that used to be in the middle of southbay?

Its been there since i was born lol when that building was there 24th st was really good! Once they took all the boats out and constructed that marina it went downhill, it's still a good spot but not even close to how it was.

Haha I must be crazy I guess. Do you remember what that building was? Wasn't it a restaurant or something?

There is a resident population of green sea turtles not just a result of the power plant. All these stories of jack crevalle and soo many cool things is getting me exicited!

I know, I know, my battery sucks and so does my charger. It seems someone always says that when I post a screenshot of something.

I've got some exploring to do then. I know there's something new out there, I'm not sure what it is though. Maybe they made it bigger? I'll soon find out when I have the chance to get the yak going.

The needlefish we used to catch were huge when the power plant was running - as big as legal barracuda. The crevally, sea turtles, I remember someone catching lookdown fish there once - it was a great place when the power plant was running. We used to walk that dike fishing, and I still have several native american stone tools on my mantle that were dredged up out of the bay, and a large bronze nail that came out of a long lost schooner. It used to be just one long dike maybe 50 feet across, and has been infilled in the years since.
Good times then...I remember being so sick of shrimp I wouldn't eat it anymore. Wish I had access to shrimp that fresh now. I was starting to get pretty good with the smaller diameter throw net as I recall. Can't use those here any more...

Houndfish or the standard Pacific Needlefish we see here? Was it like the one in my profile pic?

If they were as big as the one in my profile pic and had bright blue teeth they were actually houndfish aka mexican needlefish.

Some of them were a good 3 feet long and fat! Don't remember them having bright blue teeth though. To this day I have scars on my hands from them though!

Could be pacific needle fish, the one in my profile pic was about 6 1/2'. Houndfish are the coolest trash fish out there they fight hard and jump like nuts. Here's a picture of the two species.

The pacific's are pretty common around here and I see them caught around mission bay allot. They also don't get even close to the size of the houndfish and max out at around 3'.
