I say, take the powers to be whether they are fishers or not, to show them Barrett....the quietness, the beauty of the surroundings and maybe let them "fish" it with or without a license and hope someone can put a hooked fish on the line or hand it off to get them excited.

We were told of a program that allows each county supervisor to use 2 million on discretionary monies for non-profit and other programs. If they all ear mark 4-5% each its more than enough to keep all lakes open without added fees. Jim Brown brought that to our attention today. Keep writing in. Dont stop. Write to the county suoervisors.

Two at this time are speaking in our favor. Yet we dont know if something is happening behind the scenes.
They must realize we vote them in. That means we can vote them out.
Barbra Bry and Scott Shermen have spoken the loudest.

So this really isn't about the Virus anymore...it's once again about the city wanting to take money from the lakes and spending it somewhere else! Remember, they already took away one day from each lake, it doesn't hurt them to take away more...or even close some completely!

Here is how the lakes city lakes programs works.
3 of 10 lakes are in the city. The county has never paid a dime for the lakes to be open yet they receive every bit of tax dollars from every person who goes to the lakes and spends money in the county.
Now that we are in a serious budget crunch the City says they cant afford to subsidize the county lakes any longer and is why only 3 lakes are open. The city lakes are Murray Miramar and Hodges. They left Hodges closed and opened up Otay. Why otay and not San V or El Cap that have a larger parking lot and a permit booth so they do not need as many people staffed there is anyones guess. Typical county and city council. Its the blind leading the blind.
Now the county does not want to pay any money for the lakes to be open yet they want the tax dollars from all our money we spend. Their excuse is, we don't own the water.

The county kicks the can back to the City and city says we are not paying for your lakes.

Its all about voters. If the county board of supervisors were worried they’d be voted out they would open the lakes.

Doing the math- 50k fishermen and boaters spread across all districts within the county, there are not enough voters to make them worried about their jobs.

    Its all politics

I thought the county was on our side...now it sounds like they're the jerks! So now we have City jerks and County jerks= we're screwed!

Its very sad to think back on what it was like in the 60's , 70's and 80's and to see what the city has done to our recreational fishing over the years. its not about the money, Its about the care. If the city cared about us actually being on the water they would have opened the larger lakes . Half capacity at El Cap & San V would have generated twice the water use revenue of Otay, Murray and Miramar combined. They say its not in their budget to open the other lakes yet they can spend tens of millions on nonsense. So as not to sound un sympathetic I wont mention things like the homeless and other waste of money issues. The amount of money needed to keep all of our lakes open is nothing compared to what they are willing and going to spend on their own wants and wishes. I continue to send emails but also feel its for nothing.

The homeless bathrooms they installed downtown a few years ago cost $250,000 a piece and were a huge failure filled with needles when they were removed.

Some are with us. It takes more than 2. And the rest have to get on board. There are a lot of moving parts right now. For me I looking at the long term not the here and now. The here and now does not look good. And I believe everyone is waiting to see what the final budget is before anyone steps up with cash to help us out.

Today there is another revised meeting about the budgets! Write in and let them know we need the lakes open. Be professional and have clear thoughts when writing. Leave the yelling and all Caps emails in the trash. Please and thanks.

Nothing as of yet. Our guess is they are waiting until the final numbers come out. June 19 is the final approval. All we can do is keep making people aware of the issue. We need to get non lake users understanding the issue. Do everything you can to get the word out.
