True to form, Shinna put a lesson on fish catching on me. Having been off the water for a bit, Shinna wanted to go fish. So Tuesday we went out with the goal to catch our first ever for us crappie. Armed with a head and tackle box full of YouTube suggested tackle we headed to the lake. (Shinna also brought her Catfish whooping stick for good measure).

One of the helpful Rangers told us that a guy caught crappie the other day by trolling around the east end of the lake with small crappie jigs, so that's what we set out to do. The combination of not knowing what we were doing and not having any experience paid off in some long time nothing... Shinna says "it's time to get a Cat!"

So she rigs up her whooping stick, but leaves her crappie rig in and WHAM! Well, dang! First ever Crappie for either of us! Fun fight and it's in the net. She continues to rig her cat rig and after a bit she's back in the fight. This time she pulls in a respectable blue! What was I doing all this time you ask? I too caught a catfish...in the tail! Best I can figure, it was hightailing past my line over to hers and got snagged! :emoji_laughing:

Dammit. Beat my 6.4. It looks like the one I caught. It was 6.5 on the scale, until they moved a whisker.

As for that crappie, scale it, gut it out, cut half the tail off, give it an extra rinse, and throw that baby in the frying pan whole! Head on or off! Lots of meat on the head. If you fillet it, you will loose out on a lot of meat.

Ya, watching youtube isnt how you should decide on what to fill the box with.
That can get expensive & fill the box with a bunch of stuff that may not work...
    Nice fish!

You'd be surprised what you can catch with stuff you'd never think that would work. Lol

Believe me, I’ve got enough “fishing stuff” to supply Cabela’s for a year! But, I can always find room for more! It’s funny, but once you learn how to be a good fishermen for a certain kind of fish, the less stuff you need to be effective. Shinna and I are on the other end of the spectrum with Crappie, so we are obligated to buy everything ever made for Crappie fishing! Lol!!
