I figured most would vote for the last two options! Only makes sense. THAT is what we must do for our schools: Beef up security and arm school officials! If our teachers are not competent enough to be able to be trained in the use of firearms in a defensive manner, then maybe they are not competent enough to be teaching our children. ANY adult should be so competent.

Figured you were referring to security in the schools, no? If not I missed something. If so, I addressed the subject.

Nothing is going to be 100% and if teachers and principals don't want to be participants in armed security then they should stop saying "somebody needs to DO something". They can remain victims and targets.

We need armed security at all schools, more then one safety officer. a secure campus that is locked down once school is in session, late students and guests will have to get buzzed in by security. The gates can be unlocked if they need to evacuate. We also need a policy where the name, pic ,or any personal info of shooter is never released and the trials should be closed and identifying info be kept secret.
Those are a good start, without violating the constitutional rights of millions of Americans.

All other measures will be ineffective. This is the new world we live in. Inner city schools have few shootings because these security measures have been in place for a while now.
Agreed, that IS what they mean, but that will not work...EVER! There are already millions of guns out there and a person determined to do such an evil thing will get his hands on one. The only answer that will come anywhere close to being effective will have to be on the school grounds.

My school has maybe half a dozen or so armed officers spread throughout campus after threats back in September that were later revealed to be a framing. You can barely tell they're there and they're all super nice, but they could put a few holes in someone like Cruz quicker that you can say school shooter.

On the other hand to go with what Fisheromen was saying, there's some teachers I'd trust with a gun and some that I wouldn't trust with a butter knife.

There's 350 million guns in the U.S. .....banning assault weapons will not change that, nor will it stop school shootings. The only thing that will solve this problem will be when parents, teachers, and neighbors admit that a child has a serious mental problem and something is done about it. Rarely is a school shooter a surprise to those who know them. The government is not going to fix this problem so let's stop looking for them to do something! At least 4 government agencies knew the Florida shooter was going to pull off something big...they did nothing! The couple that the Florida shooter lived with are either the dumbest people on earth or they're covering their butts, saying that they saw nothing wrong with him. Really...kicked out of school as a sophomore, cutting himself, shooting neighbors animals, threatening people, constant police visits, admitting he wanted to be a school shooter...no, I see nothing wrong with him! Someone needs to step up and stop these kids when the parents or guardians are to stupid to do anything! Our government is the answer to nothing..it is a bunch of egomaniacs who are collecting tax payer monies for accomplishing not a stinking thing..unless they can profit from it!!! Go ahead, ban assault weapons...and see what a student can do with a pair of high powered hand guns!

Get rid of AR-15s and Ak-47s.. Sorry but not needed by the general public (fun as they are to shoot). Do a buy back, like they did in Australia. Tighten up regs for hand guns.

What? An Ar15 is no different then my hunting rifle. I have a few rifles more deadly then an ar15. Can you tell me a few reasons why it should be banned. Can you tell me how many shots per trigger pull? Can you tell me the average range of the shots?

Seriously have you read the second amendment? Define "shall not be infringed". With all do respect your children's lives are not more valuable then the second amendment as without they small eventually be possessions to the powerfull.

So instead we shall infringe on millions of legal gun owner rights? Please name the constitutional right to get educated?

An assault rifle is a scary looking semi auto. My 338 lapua mag holds 6 shots and is deadly with body armor within 1000 yards. It has a stainless barrel to prevent warping with multiple shots. One of the most deadly guns know to man.
