The nephews are going back to school and I want to take them fishing before they do. Don’t want the usual mackerel at your closest pier. I was thinking of baiting and waiting for rays and sharks while bbq’ing on the grass or sand. Where is the best place for this? Best rig set up and bait of choice. I was thinking fiesta island as we can hang by the sand and just relax. Thank you for your insight and pointers in advance.

Fresh macks for bait on the knocker rig. Ski beach, FI, DAC, sail bay, SS, cays or mariners would be my call.. hook one too big, break him off and retie.. if you catch rays other than bats, be careful, there is definitely some danger there..

Macks, ghost shrimp, or clams/muscles for bait. Closest to free that you can get is always better.

    Agreed...

Would fresh still mean its flopping around as it goes in the freezer? Cause I have the ability to freeze bait (down to -25F) that quick on occasion...

I could even throw them in the blender still moving and make chumsickles LOL

Deep freezer is a great idea and I own two, lol.. the whole shrimp they sell at Zion market are flash frozen and thawed on ice with minimal processing.. about as fresh as it gets other than catching bait. Caught bait is awesome.. and superior.. that said, the convenience of walking to your freezer and grabbing two bucks in bait and having a session can be an amazing thing. Some of the flash frozen carangids there are pretty good bait too if you need fin bait for sharks etc

The diamond rays are a bit more placid, they still have fatalities attributed though, and some mean hardware too..

So are these the culprits that pop your line before you even lift your rod? I've had a couple occasions when I knew I had a bite, let the "fish" tickle the bait, and then went to set the hook into nothing but water... When I reel in my mono top shot was frayed at least 6' from the hook?
