Double oak Wood-ford is 59.00-65.00 at Bevmo. totally different than Wood-ford Private reserve. The double oak is on another level of smoothness.

If I start with the good stuff the subtleties might be lost on me, but I don’t want to pay my dues. Isn’t that what youth was for?

Start with the good stuff...no need to drink the bottom stuff. get your pallet set right from the get go. Stay away from Jack and Jim Beam unless its Gentlemen Jack or Jim Beam Black. for lesser Bourbon they are not bad, not great by any means yet not bad. Angels Envy is another decent one to consider.

Its very much like Tequila. If its not 100% agave its horrible. Headache in a bottle. Bourbon is the same way. go higher quality right off. You don't need $100.00 a bottle Bourbon, $60.00 is about right. :)

That's my favorite. A couple oz's in a glass with a single cube of ice or ball of ice as the photo shows, move the bourbon in the glass to chill it... holly cow batman... Its amazing. Photo was taken in Japan after I checked into my hotel last Feb.

Comes to about $6.75 a drink, the way I would drink it. Ouch. Ah, my kids don’t really need college... or even shoes.

Bevmo is better priced than many places, at least for whiskey. Very nice selection too. I'm not convinced the double oak Woodford is worth twice the price of the standard. It is very good though.

Had lunch today at a place called KnB Bistro in the Del Cerro area and next to Windmill Farms. The food was very good -- but I was impressed with the array of bourbons and especially the single malt selection. Also got turned on to a local brewery I'd never heard of: Pure Project from the Miramar area. (Murk IPA anyone?) Anyway, I'd definitely recommend stopping in if you're in the area.

And I noticed they had the Double Oaked Woodford Reserve. I'll have to try it!
