Bonefish on the ScorcherZ....arguably the best multi-species lure in the Southwestern United States.:emoji_wink:

Tubed it today with Carpkiller in SD bay. Spent the first hour targetting tripletail, caught bunch of spotties. Spent the next hour targetting bonefish and croakers, caught a bunch of spotties. Spent the third hour targetting bigger spotties and halibut, caught a bunch of spotties, a couple 14" were the biggest.

Crossed paths with Rob and we both had over 20 fish. Seperated for a while and hooked back up again in a couple hours and now we were both in high 30s in fish count. We talked about going for 100 spotties. Fished for another hour or two and now we were both in the mid 40s. We ended up calling it qiuts before reaching 100. I had 44 sbb, 1 mack and 1 wsb. Rob had 46 sbb. We fished about 7 hours. Blisters on every toe, rodbutt rash, sunburn, hunger, arthritice hips, shaky kness, etc.

Jighead paradox: Using small fine wire hooks has some advantages....but I lost SO many fish yesterday that felt solidly hooked.
Maybe a bigger barb woulda helped.
I wanted to catch something silver so the first hour I threw a Blue Fox Vibrax in line spinner. Got a spottie....but no bonefish....not even a mackerel.
Great day on the water, although didn't get anything interesting and my spotties topped out at about 12 inches long.

How you tubers get out to that spot takes balls. I assume riding the tide, but much respect!

We try to ride the tides, but sometimes the wind throws you a curve. Ive been an hardrcore bellyboater since 1994. Back in the days of metal zippers and truck innertubes. For all those years I have preferred round boats. This year I bought a u tube because im old and feeble and i thought it would be easier to launch from the rocks. I like it ok, but my hips get taxed from the different sitting posture. After some long trips or windy days my hips are WASTED and can barely walk for a week,, I like the uboat better for flyfishing and not travelling much but I like the round boat better for most venues. Theyre both cool

Thanks for the report Scott. Nice to see you post again. It seems like it's been a while. Loved the pics..... I would love to catch a triple tail. Are you willing to share any advice or techniques you've figured out to successfully target them?

    180826 spotty on apron mariner's.jpg 180826 spotty ScorcherZ mariner's.jpg
6 spotties and 1 tiny sand bass Sunday at Mariner's. Only two decent fish. Fished with some other baits but overwhelmingly with ScorcherZ...which is the only lure that caught fish. I think this might be two shots of the same fish....if the darn thing would grow into its tail it would be a 15 inch fish!
