I might have asked this before, but what's the best way this time of year to catch mackerel. I've done the glow stick thing at Ob pier when it was warmer and they bit almost instantly every time I went. I've gone 2 more times since its gotten colder and nothing. So who has currently been catching mackerel? Where and what methods have you been using? I'm in need of some for lobster bait.

Late summer and fall they are easy to catch, but don't show as regularly when it cools down. OB pier usually isn't very good in the winter in my experience. Maybe try shelter island pier or the jetty?

Shelter Island has been much slower than mid August back then. It never hurts to give it it try!

It's just bait fish em the same way how you always catch them. There here 24/7. If it ain't biting there then head to another spot.
