It's big bass time in SoCal and looks like we picked a great time for SD WON Teams to be on Lake Hodges. Judging by the weights and limits teams brought in during the Bass Council's Tournament of Champions and the ABA team tournament the past couple of weeks, fishing and catching should be exceptional.

I just need to alert you all to the new Quagga mussel inspection that is going on at Lake Hodges. Here's what they say you have to do:"Beginning March 14, 2009, all private boats wishing to launch at Lake Hodges will be inspected for quagga mussels. Boats must be clean and dry or they will not be permitted to launch". This also means your bilge plug must be pulled, your livewells must be dry and when your motor is in the down position, no water drains out of it. For further information on the inspection go to http://www.sandiego.gov/water/recreation/hodges.shtml

Beside the great paybacks and all the other extras offered at SD WON Team tournaments, remember each time you enter, you get the chance to win a free membership to Vail Lake and also, a free fishing trip to Lake El Salto through the Cardon Resort. Those two bennies are at not extra charge to fishermen.

There are several ways to enter: Download an entry form at www.WONbass.com or from www.AnglersArsenal.com and mail, fax or drop your entry form at Angler's Arsenal. Remember some of the old forms out there do not reflect the new SD City lakes and permit fees with is note $25.00 for WON Team fishermen. You can also enter by using you master, visa or discover credit cards by calling John or Vicki at 619 466 8355.

The lake is open to pre-fishing on Wednesday 3/18. I'll post further information later in the weeks.

Quagga Inspection for WON SD Teams at Lake Hodges

Be ready for a Quagga Mussel inspection Saturday morning before the tournament at Lake Hodges. The Ranger will be looking for dry livewells and bilges. Also no water should pour out of the lower unit of the motor when in the down position. If you have fished no other lake than Hodges since last weekend just mention that to the Ranger. The WON staff will also be there to advise teams what their flight number is and to "tag" the tournament boats. Late sign ups for the tournament will be accepted in the parking lot just off to the right of the main gate as you enter the lake grounds. If you are fully signed-up proceed to the line. Any last minute paperwork, entries, additions to an entry already on file, etc., can be taken care of at that time. Remember all teams entered in the tournament before 6pm Friday evening will be put in the draw pool. All entries after that time will blast-off after the last pre-draw position has gone.

The Ranger along with the WON Staff will inspect boats in the queue line before the gates open. This will start at about 4:30am.

The Tournament boat will go to the launch ramp first and launch. Tournament boats will be allowed to launch 10 minutes after that. Right now looks like the gates will open around 5am. Your tournament fees will be prepaid, but members of the general public have to stop off at the "Iron Ranger" to buy their permits. If you are behind one of these boats, you can go around that boat and proceed to the launch ramp. Please be courtreous when interacting with the general public at all times

We are proud to announce the barbeque for Saturday's event will be sponsored by Berkley and Pure Fishing. Chris Marso will also be bringing a lot of "goodies" to be included in the raffle. The barbeque, raffle and awards ceremony will be conducted just to the east of the old concession building. If you have portable chairs please bring them.

Re:Quagga Inspection for WON SD Teams at Lake Hodges

With as many tournaments as there are scheduled this year at Hodges, and the new boat inspections, maybe they could start tagging the boats like they do up at Diamond. That would speed up their process for checking boats returning to the lake, and getguys on the water faster and eliminating cost to the city.
