I've been fishing these a lot lately , getting tons of bites but i only seem to be able to land half the fish i hook. With senkos i rarely lose any fish. I was wondering if anyone knew why this is. I use a 4/0 hook and my only guess is the medium action rod i'm using just isn't cutting it.

You can load the rod more before swinging or move up to a 5/0 EWG hook. You can also use a #1-2 circle hook and butt hook the bait on light line 6-8lb test on spinning gear. JeepnKal knows all about this technique.

When you miss these fish, is the hook point exposed or buried back into the Ika? 4/0 is the right size, but make sure its EWG (extra wide gap). The culprit could also be this years bass fry.

ya i hook it weedless with a 4/0 wide gap hook. they just seem to be able to throw the hook half the time. Like i said i havent had any problems with senkos or any other soft plastics, just ikas.

I use a 5/0 ewg through the skirt side first and a MH rod works for me with the ika. Stouter rod and a hard sweeping hook set to get that thicker hook through cleanly.

that bass should be 10+ if it was eating.

definitely use a heavier rod or a light wire hook for a Medium rod.

last guy hit it on the head.i experienced your same troubles when i started using it.even a heavier rod wont cut it if its too parabolic.a med is fine with a extra fast tip,and if your bombing them like i do then nothing shy of 7foot.the way jeepnkal does it is cool in a pinch if you dont have the tools at the time ...no offense jeep.but in the long run would cost a ton of money losing plastics from shakes ,where as the tex rigged you can catch multiple fish if hooked deep down the bait an turned once in awhile.i use 3/0 so i can run the hook deeper,an leave the tip exposed.hope it helps just MY 2 CENTS.

I use a medium heavy rod with a extra fast taper for the Ika. It's an old Pinnacle IMS Vision 6 ft. 6 in. triggerstick and it sure does the job. I think smaller fish are hard to stick with this rig, but I'm not looking for dinks anyway.

Agreed normally when this rig gets bit its not a dink :D Takes patience to work it slow but generally its more effective that way for me.

Question: When flylined, what is the deepest water that this should be fished in?

Also...the fish will usually hit it on the fall anyways. So always watch your line for abnormal movement as it falls.
