I've been fishing alot at Crystal pier recently and so for it's one of my favorite spots in socal to fish. I have caught some crazy stuff there before.
I've seen some pictures with people holding 50-80 lb. Yellowtail and I'm wondering if those guys are still biting. The threads about them are all from like 2014 so that is pretty outdated. Thanks in advance

I’d love to see a 50-80# yellowtail anywhere!

Yeah, at the little bait shop they have there are a couple pictures of yellowtail caught on the pier. Also if you look up "Crystal pier yellowtail" you will see pictures of some fairly large catches.

It's seems to be an extremely rare occurrence though.

I know there was a 30# one caught there several years ago but I haven’t heard of anything but firecracker 2-3# yt there a few times last year.

If it's yellow tail your after, then just go on a 3/4 day trip. Just saying.

Yeah, I know. Just wondering out of pure curiosity if they showed up around the piers sometimes.

Wouldn't be surprised especially considering how warm the water is. Personally I hate fishing piers. The only time I'll hit up a pier is for bait, otherwise they're just a pain in the butt with crowds and such.

Actually, I can agree to an extent but every time I go to Crystal Pier I catch something badass. Last time I went I caught this 30 lb horn shark (Edit: It was actually about 21/22 pounds)

You can get them off the piers when the conditions are right. Live mackeral with the a strong current otherwise your mack will just tangle up with other fisherman. Day break seems to be when I have seen the best catches. Good luck.
