The 145 anglers at El Capitan last week reported catching 381 bass to 5.93 pounds. Those totals include 284 fish caught and weighed among 52 anglers fishing the San Diego Team Series tournament there on Saturday.
Wade and Jon Strelic won that 26 team tournament with a 5 fish limit totaling 16.23 pounds, which included the 5.93 pound bass mentioned above. Second place in that tournament went to Josh Preman and Scott Wingo who had 15.12 pounds, and third place was 14.02 pounds posted by Jimmy Huynh and Noy Vilanysane.
Bass fishing at El Capitan is still good, even in the daytime with a good bite on plastics taking place in the clearer, more consistent main basin of the lake. Bass are breaking in the mornings, and topwater fish are reported over grassy areas.
The launching conditions are good with the water level sitting 70.85 feet below spill. The water temperature at the surface is reported at around 78 degrees.
El Capitan is now open on its summer schedule; Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday is open to fishing, general boating, and water contact activities (water-skiing, wakeboarding and jet-skiing). Mondays are open for fishing and general boating only, no water contact. The lake is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The concession is open Thursdays through Mondays with boat rentals available.
