  • Local bass fishing guide Jim Hallauer reports the following conditions at El Capitan; “the majority of the bass remain shallow out to 20′ and are in both pre-spawn and spawn mode. Finesse applications are working best with light texas rigs and wacky rig presentations being most productive.” Call Jim at 619-857-7173 to book a trip on any of the local bass lakes.

Boat launching conditions are good with the lake level sitting 76.28 feet below spill level. The surface temperature of the water was reported at 64 degrees.

El Capitan is open for fishing and boating Thursday through Monday each week. The lake is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Water contact activities (jet skis, wake-boarding, water-skiing) are now permitted only on Sunday.

Rental boats are now available Thursday through Sunday through the concession stand. Call 619-668-2770 to confirm availability.
