The 38 anglers checked at Lower Otay reported catching 23 bass, 5 bluegill, 91 crappie and 10 channel catfish. Big bass trophy chasers are still casting swimbaits as trout stocks continue, but those anglers aren’t talking.
The surface temperature is listed at 60 degrees and the water level is 12.4 feet below spill. 400 pounds of small (average 1/2 pound each) rainbow trout were stocked on December 5th and 20th by the CDFW and were scheduled to be stocked last week, although that drop has not yet been confirmed (doesn’t mean it didn’t happen). Lower Otay is open on a Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday schedule with rental boats available all three of those days, but be sure to call ahead at (619)397-5212 to confirm.
