  • The 172 anglers checked at Lower Otay Lake last Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday reported catching 332 largemouth bass, 51 bluegill and 1 blue catfish.

Those bass totals included 145 fish caught and weighed by the 31 teams fishing on Saturday during the San Diego Team Series Tournament. That tournament was won by Outhai Rasakhamdee and Noy Vilanysane who had a 5 bass limit totaling 14.73 pounds. Second place went to Floyd Jones and Geoff Pierce who had 14.33 pounds. Third was Stephen Lamb and Kevin Norling with 13.81 pounds. Rasakhamdee and Vilanysane took home $2,200 for the win.

Boat launching conditions are good with the lake 10.07 feet below spill level. The surface temperature was not reported this week, but should be in the mid 70s.

Lower Otay is open for fishing on a Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday schedule. Boat rentals are available, but the concession may close with little to no warning. Please call ahead at (619)397-5212 to confirm operating schedule.
