The 91 anglers checked at Lower Otay last week reported catching 384 bass, 9 bluegill and 10 crappie. Big bass continue to come from Otay this year. David Burns of Chula Vista caught a 13.6 pound bass (pictured) on Wednesday while fishing a swimbait in Otay Arm. Burns also had a 12.3 pounder on the swimbait. The 13 pounder had clearly already spawned, while the 12 pounder looked to still have eggs. So there are still some fish looking to move up and do their thing. The launching conditions are excellent with the lake 9.42 feet below capacity. The water tempearture is 63 degrees. Lower Otay is open on a Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday schedule. Rental boats are available, but the concession may close with little to no warning, please call ahead during operating hours to 619.397.5212 to confirm availability of rental boats and concession services.
