Lake Morena Fish Report – 3/12/17

  • Lake Morena has come up 24′ feet since December 7th due to all of the rain this winter. Jess Ranch stocked 1,000 pounds of rainbow trout this week.

    Catfish: The catfish bite is starting to slow down. The best spots remain Paradise Cove and Geezer Cove. Mackerel, bonito, chicken liver and stinkbait are the best choices for bait.

    Trout: The trout bite is picking up. A couple of 4 lb trout were caught on Powerbait and Kastmasters this week, as well as several 2-3 pounders. Hill Cove, Pumphouse Cove, and the T-Dock are the best spots.

    Bass: The bass bite is still slow, but anglers are still having some luck with swimbaits.

    Panfish/Carp: No reports of crappie, bluegill or carp being caught this week.

    Lake Morena County Park is located at 2550 Lake Morena Drive, Campo, CA 91906. The lake is open 6:00 a.m. to 6:30pm.

    The current water temperature is 51 degrees.

    No live baitfish or crayfish. Boat launch is closed. All vessels must pass a Quagga Inspection and pay a $5 launch fee. State fishing license is required.
