  • Sutherland’s first report of the 2016 fishing season saw 22 largemouth bass reported amongst 52 anglers at the reservoir over the weekend. Anglers reporting on our forums said that fishing was tough while the sun was high, so getting there early was crucial to getting bites.

Most of the anglers were targeting crappie, though the creel check from the city doesn’t reflect any reported caught from those anglers who were checked. The early season crappie bite is usually pretty good up there, even if the fish counts don’t make that evident.

Sutherland is open Fridays through Sundays. There are no concessions at the lake, so no rental boats. The launch ramp is out of service with the lake level 81.74 feet below spill level. Shore fishing, float tubes, and cartop boats are allowed, though tubes and boats must pay appropriate use fees.
