  • Permits and Boat Rentals are now being issued at the Ranger Station. At present, unfortunately, we are limited to cash transactions only. A vending machine is being installed that will offer more payment options. We apologize for any inconvenience during this transitional period. The park will be closed weekdays throughout fall re-opening for weekday fishing in December with the first trout plant.

Paul Eddo of Escondido seems to have zeroed in on the formula for catching big cats. Mr. Eddo, who had last month’s biggest whisker- fish caught and released a 22.10# Blue Catfish while fishing off the South Shore Rock Pile using cut mackerel. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works wonders on catfish, as well as carp.

Crappie are caught most often in the early morning, under the cover of shadows, using live golden shiners or mini-jigs.

Largemouth bass can be found on, and around, structure. They are hitting frogs, crawdads, and dark colored plastics.
