The 13 Fishing Concept A reel customized with the midnight blue Trick Shop Component Kit

A relative newcomer to the rod and reel market is Florida based 13 Fishing, but they’ve already become quite a hit for anglers looking for an alternative to the manufacturers we’ve all grown up with. 13 Fishing is unique in that their lineup of reels can be customized with colored parts, so each angler can put his or her personal touch on the reels they use. The Concept A is available online for $170 while the Trick Shop Kits can be purchased for $85 through 13 Fishing. You can also check out 13 Fishing products in town at Anglers Choice Tackle and East County Bait and Tackle.

Sunline Shooter Defier Nylon Fishing Line

It’s been a long time since a fishing line has impressed me as much as this product has. But Sunline Shooter Defier is a simply sensational nylon copolymer line which casts like a dream, is easily managed on both casting and spinning reels and is incredibly sensitive for a nylon line. No fishing line does it all – but Defier is about as close as possible to that. The only downside to Defier is its premium price tag of over $30 per 330 yard spool. Many anglers simply won’t spend that on a nylon line, which is why this makes a great gift!

    Megabass Levante Rods

Previously only available in Japan, Megabass builds quite literally some of the best fishing rods in the world. Despite how difficult (and expensive) it was to get them in the US, they still had quite a loyal following in North America. Recently, Megabass has launched a couple of rod lines tailored toward anglers in the US through their Megabass of America company. One of those is the recently release Levante series of rods, which retail for $199 – the most affordable price tag ever attached to a Megabass rod. Levante rods are absolutely stunning in person, featuring the distinct look of a Japanese rod with American inspired actions and a friendly price tag.

Z-Man Finesse TRD and Shroomz Jigheads – “Ned Rigs”

The Ned Rig, aka Midwest Finesse Rig is one of the hottest new techniques in bass fishing. And, because it originated in Kansas, a lot of West Coast anglers still don’t know about the Ned Rig. But this is one that every southern California bass angler should have in their back pocket for when the bite gets tough. Because of how easy it is to fish, it’s a great technique for kids or anglers just getting started. The ideal Ned Rig consists of the Z-Man Finesse TRD baits and Z-Man Finesse Shroomz jigheads. These would make a fantastic “stocking stuffer” this holiday season.
