Anglers Marine Bass-A-Thon coming up this month

Rick Grover, owner of Anglers Marine has put together another awesome event for 2010, bringing four of the nation’s hottest anglers including the legendary Larry Nixon. The 60 year old touring angler from Arkansas has been fishing the professional tours for 33 years, amassing over 2.6 million dollars in a career that includes a win in the most prestigious tournament in bass fishing, the BASS Masters Classic (1983). Nixon was so influential on bass fishing in the 80s that several of the best anglers in the history of the sport, including Kevin VanDam, David Fritts, and Denny Brauer acknowledge Nixon as their “angling hero.”

Nixon’s favorite technique is structure fishing with a worm or jig, so you can bet his seminars will be relevant to San Diego, and provide valuable information for any Southern California bass angler. Nixon is scheduled to give one seminar, at 1:00 PM on Saturday, so thats a great time to be at the Bass-A-Thon.

John Crews’ seminar at 3:00 PM on the 21stAlso doing free seminars at this year’s Bass-A-Thon will be Western pros Cody Meyer and Brett Hite, as well as Virginia angler John Crews Jr. Cody Meyer of California (Redding) has been outstanding the last few years fishing the FLW American Fishing Series and FLW Series. He finished 3rd in the 2009 FLW Forrest Wood Cup, and was 2nd this year, behind local Ramona angler Kevin Hawk. Meyer will give a seminar each day, at 10:30 AM on Saturday and 4:30 PM on Sunday.

Brett Hite is a name most local bass anglers will recognize. The 32 year old from Phoenix has been to Southern California many times, even fishing, and winning the local El Cajon Ford San Diego Team Open. Hite is known for his prowess at drop shotting, winning several regional pro tournaments on Western lakes with the technique. Crews launched into the spotlight with his narrow win at the California Delta in the Elite Series tournament at the California Delta in March. He caught a 5 pound fish on his last flip on the 4th and final day of the tournament to give him a 1-ounce win over Skeet Reese.
