Another big bass caught in San Diego County

Brock Means of San Diego caught a 13 pound bass at Dixon Lake on Friday, March 20th – the second big bass caught this month from the small Escondido Reservoir.

  • Means caught the giant bass on a jig near the Boat Dock, and released it after weighing it and getting photos on the dock.

On March 10th, Mac Weakley caught a 15.285 pound bass from the Catfish Cove area, also on a jig while sight fishing. Dixon has returned to form as a trophy bass factory, thanks to continuous trout stocks and possibly a little less angling pressure the last couple years as some other lakes around town captured the big bass headlines.

But we predicted Dion would be one of the hot spots for big bass this season in our “Trophy Bass Outlook for 2015” article published the first week of March. And, look for more big bass to show up in the reports at Dixon, the lake tends to spawn a little later in the year than some of the other reservoirs nearby – remember the lake record, a 21.688 pound bass came off a spawning bed on May 31st of 2003.
