Lake record trout caught at Cuyamaca

San Diego’s Lukasz Szczedanek caught a 17 pound 8 ounce rainbow trout on Sunday afternoon at Lake Cuyamaca.

  • Szczedanek was using an inflated night crawlwer while fishing at Heron Point, hooking and landing this massive trout at about 3 PM. This trout was part of a recent plant from Mt. Lassen Hatchery on St. Patrick’s Day, and Lake Ranger Butch Paddock suggested this fish might not have been the biggest one planted that day.

“The recent stock included, by far, the largest trout stocked at Lake Cuyamaca in recent history. We are happy to say that several 10 pounders have also been caught from that stock, and there might even be a larger rainbow in the lake right now.”

This fish breaks the existing Cuyamaca lake record set in 2012 by Ryan Watson. That fish weighed 15 pounds, 4 ounces.
