The time lapse video shown below covers about 5 years of work on the dam in only 34 seconds. The dam was completed this Wednesday, with the project increasing the dam’s height 117 vertical feet, allowing for 152,000 acre feet of water storage capacity to San Vicente, enough to serve more than 300,000 local homes a year.
But the question on every angler’s mind is, when is San Vicente going to reopen?
The rest of the project, which includes a new marina and launch ramp are expected to be completed in 2014. But we’ll likely be waiting on water, enough water to reach the new launch ramp before the lake will be opened for recreational use. With the signs pointing toward an El Nino weather phenomenen this year, that might come sooner than expected.
