The San Diego County Water Authority has released a time-lapse video showing progress of the San Vicente Dam Raise Project that began in 2009, and is scheduled to be completed late 2014 or early 2015. The reopening of the lake for fishing will depend on the amount of rainfall the area receives after completion. The lake will reopen when the water level reaches the new launch ramp and marina.
The project will increase San Vicente’s water storage capacity from its previous 90,000 acre-feet capacity to 242,000 acre-feet by raising the existing dam from 220 feet to 337 feet. The increase in storage capacity will result in 500 more surface acres of lake, from its original 1,069 surface acres to 1,500.
