The Coronado Islands are on fire, and with good weather forecasted for the next 10 days this bite should stay good and stable. We have been getting yellowtail on a variety of tactics; slow trolling sardines and mackerel, yo-yo irons, and surface irons below birds.
For the surface irons, if you find birds starting to crash, you’ll find bonito sounding first. After a minute or two the yellowtail will show up and its wide open on the surface iron.
The fish are spread from around the islands to down below and inside the rock pile. The water temperature has been around 64 degrees and should be climbing with the good weather forecasted ahead.
The rockcod fishing is excellent as well right now. It’s looking like this is going to be another epic season for saltwater sportfishing. Last year I was booked solid in the summer, so now is the time to get a trip on the books for the upcoming season. Don’t wait until everyone is booked and miss out on this incredible season.
