First wave of dorado hits San Diego

  • Yellowfin tuna invaded the local waters last week, evidenced by a local 1/2 day boat taking 40 yellowfin in a single trip on July 9th. And another summer treat was apparently right on their heels, as anglers are taking to social media to show off their first dorado of the season.

Dorado are also beginning to show up more regularly in the sport boat counts as well, mostly on the overnight range trips, but occasionally on down to the 1/2 day boats.

Duane “Diego” Mellor of Seasons Sportfishing posted “the crowd pleasers have arrived” on an Instagram photo uploaded yesterday of a client of his with a nice golden colored dorado.

Look for the dorado fishing to ramp up exponentially in coming weeks as the summer progresses and the water temperature continues to climb. This will likely be an even better year for dorado fishing than last year, which was nothing short of incredible.
