Record Yellowfin Tuna Caught Off Oceanside

  • A pair of local anglers weighed a giant yellowfin tuna yesterday at Oceanside Harbor which would smash a 32 year old California State Record if verified and confirmed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Josh Lish posted photos on Instagram and Facebook of a 265.0 pound yellowfin tuna caught by Bo Scanlon within eyesight of Oceanside, a catch which would beat the existing record catch by 26 pounds.

The existing record of 239 pounds was caught on November 24th in 1984 by Ronald Howarth fishing near Catalina Island.

Based on the photos, it would appear the fish was caught while trolling a KK-PONO Lure made by local angler Jamie Lyons.

So this just happened @scanlon_bo life time fish glad i was able to be apart of this new california state record…
